Tory is a co-founder of Owl Ventures and is actively involved with all facets of the firm. He currently serves on the board of directors for several of the sector’s leading companies, including Brisk Teaching, Hazel Health, Kiddom, Newsela, ParentSquare, Quizlet, Subject and uLesson. As an early pioneer in the edtech market, Tory has led investments in some of the most successful companies in the sector. Notable prior investments include Accelerate Learning (acquired by Providence Equity Partners), DreamBox Learning (acquired by Discovery Education), LearnZillion (acquired by Imagine Learning), and Remind (acquired by ParentSquare). As a lead investor and board member he has played a hands-on role helping the top edtech companies across all facets of development including core definition and measurement of value proposition, sales & distribution, hiring, funding and eventual paths to successful exit.
Prior to Owl Ventures, Tory was a Partner at Catamount Ventures where he founded and ran the venture industry’s first education investment practices. There he led investments in education companies TenMarks (acquired by Amazon), MasteryConnect (acquired by Instructure), Presence(acquired by Bain Capital) and EdSurge (acquired by ISTE).
Tory is a Pahara-Aspen Education Fellow and an Edmund Hilary Global Impact Fellow. He holds a B.A. in Economics from Williams College and an M.B.A. from the Stanford Graduate School of Business.
